Arriving and leaving

Check in from 12:00, check out by 11:00. Reception takes arrivals until 23:00; if your train gets in later than that, message ahead and someone will wait up.
Can I check in early or leave late?
It depends on the room being free, so ask the front desk when you book. If your train gets in at dawn, say so.

What do I tell a rickshaw driver?
Mamamia, near the fort parking. Or show them the card on our contact page, which has the address in Hindi and our number for the last turn or two.
Is there parking?
Yes, free, on the lane outside. It is tight but it works, and the fort parking is a minute further up if you are in something large.
The rooms
Which room should I book?
The deluxe rooms are the carved sandstone ones, with an alcove to sit in. The AC room is plainer, cooler and cheaper. The family room sleeps four in two beds, and the dormitory is priced by the bed. Compare the rooms.
Do the rooms have air conditioning?

Do the rooms have their own bathroom?
The AC room, the deluxe rooms and the family room each have a private bathroom. The dormitory shares one down the corridor.
What is the dormitory like?
Steel bunks with bedding on every one, a locker-height shelf, a fan, and a shared bathroom down the corridor. ₹300 a bed. See the dormitory.
Can we stay with children?
Yes. The deluxe family room sleeps four, in two beds. Whether an extra mattress can go in, ask the front desk.
Is there Wi‑Fi?

Safaris
Do I have to stay at Mamamia to book a safari?
No. The safaris run for anyone, though guests get first call on the afternoon jeeps.
Where do the safaris go?
To Sam Sand Dunes, 42 km west of Jaisalmer and about an hour by road. All three are timed for the light out there, which means the late afternoon.
Which one should we do?
With one afternoon, the jeep: it covers the most ground. The camel is slower and quieter, and it is the one for the sunset. If you can give it a night, take the camp and put the jeep or the camel in front of it.
Can we sleep outside rather than in a tent?
Yes. Ask for it when you book and a bed is made up for you on the open sand. From December to February the desert is cold at night, so bring something warm.
What should we bring?
A scarf or a cap, sunglasses and water for the afternoon, and shoes you do not mind filling with sand. From November to February add a jacket: the dunes lose their heat fast once the sun is down.
How much does it cost?
Send the date and how many of you on WhatsApp and the desk replies with the rate. Nothing is paid on this website.
Where can I read more about the safaris?
On the desert safari page: the three trips, when to go, and the time of sunset at the dunes month by month.
